Alpaca feed preparation: coarse material, fine material, trace elements

Feed preparation

Alpaca is regarded as an aristocrat in livestock, but its oral structure and digestive function are different from other livestock, and it is particularly resistant to rough feeding.

In addition, under conditions of low nutrient levels, the hair produced by the alpacas is finer and of better quality. Therefore, the roughage based on hay and fresh grass is a good feed for alpaca to digest feed.

When feeding, on this basis, properly supplemented with concentrate feed will do.

Roughage

As herbivores, the roughage consumed by the alpaca is the same as the grass consumed by ordinary sheep.

It can digest various plants containing fiber, including grasses such as alfalfa and white clover.

Concentrate

Alpacas consumed processed refined feed, the main types include: corn, wheat bran, soybean meal and so on.

Iodized salt

In the various coats of alpaca, we often find that they have a few yellow hair on their body, and withered and hard, this is what people often say with yellow hair.

There is a stark difference between the yellowish hair and other fine and soft hairs on the alpacas. It is caused by the lack of iodized salt and trace elements. The appearance of the alpaca with a yellowish hair phenomenon has greatly reduced the quality. If the yellowish hair content exceeds 15%, the overall quality of the alpaca wool will be severely reduced. In this case, the alpaca hair can only be sold as a defective product and the economic value is greatly reduced.

Therefore, in order to eliminate the effect of this yellowish hair and effectively enhance the overall quality of alpaca hair, it is necessary to put some iodized salt in the feed of the alpacas. Potassium iodate in iodized salt can effectively supplement iodine and potassium.

Trace elements

The cause of the yellowish hair, in addition to the lack of iodine and potassium, also includes other elements, such as iron, copper, manganese, zinc and so on.

However, there are no conditions in a normal farm to be able to detect what trace elements are lacking in the yellowish cilantro. Therefore, when feeding, it is necessary to add as much trace elements as possible.

It should be noted that the amount of trace elements added must be controlled. Salt bricks are a good choice in this respect. According to the growth and development needs of alpacas, salt is used as a carrier, and iron, copper, manganese, zinc and other constant trace elements are added, which not only promotes the normal growth of alpacas but also controls Dosage.
