Medical device manufacturer MU and STMicroelectronics (ST;), a leading global semiconductor supplier across multiple electronic applications, announced that MU's US-304 portable ultrasound imaging diagnostics use STMicroelectronics' STHV800 pulser pulse generation To significantly improve the quality of medical services in remote rural areas of Africa.

The MU Portable Diagnostics is designed to support the “Doctor Car” mobile clinic project to provide medical services to remote rural areas in Africa. In this project, health care workers provide medical diagnostic services to residents of remote rural areas that lack medical facilities through a special vehicle equipped with telemedicine systems. The data obtained by the portable ultrasound diagnostic device is sent to the medical center of the big city through the mobile network for detailed medical diagnosis, and the medical staff is determined to determine a reasonable treatment plan. MU will provide ultrasound imaging diagnostics for ambulances and African medical stations starting in 2016.

The MU US-304 is a convex ultrasound imaging scanner (3.5MHz) that can diagnose 15cm of the skin under the abdomen and can be carried anywhere, just a USB cable to connect to a laptop or tablet. The MU Ultrasound Diagnostics integrates ST's high-voltage, high-speed ultrasonic pulse generator chip and an 8-channel transmitter driver circuit, using ST's unique 200V SOI-BCD[2] semiconductor manufacturing process. Monolithic integrated high voltage CMOS technology, accurate analog circuitry and robust power stage.
