Introduction and Origin of Alpaca Breeds, History of Breeding

Alpaca is a special economic animal from an exotic land, with its own hometown and history.

Origin and history of breeding

Alpacas are also known as llamas. Their earliest origins were in North America and their common ancestors were original ungulates.

Today's alpacas are bred from the cross between llamas and alpacaes. At present, the alpacas are the main grazing animals in Peru, Bolivia and other countries.

In May 2002, China introduced 23 alpacas from Australia for the first time. Since then, purebred breeding has been carried out to expand the population and fill the gap in the alpaca breeding industry in China.

At present, the development of alpaca breeding is more rapid in high altitudes and arid regions in central and western regions such as Xinjiang.
