Steam trap installation points and precautions

The proper installation of the steam trap has a direct impact on the normal operation of the trap and the production efficiency of the equipment. Before installation, the trap needs to carefully check the model, caliber, differential pressure, temperature, pressure, connection level and standard, and establish the data statistics of the combination of the on-site tag and the trap position to facilitate the management and maintenance of the trap operation.

Watt traps must be subjected to pressure testing and leak testing before leaving the factory, if functional testing is available. A one-to-one test report or certificate of conformity provided by the manufacturer is provided.

For traps with special requirements, such as required material certificate, welding inspection certificate, gasket material certificate, casting furnace batch number, etc., can be installed before checking before installation.
1. When testing the steam pipeline, the steam trap should be removed and replaced with a short pipe. At least the trap valve should be closed before and after the trap. Always purge the pipe with pressurized steam before using the trap to remove debris from the pipe.
2. A filter should be installed in front of the trap to ensure that the trap is not blocked by the pipeline and clean the filter regularly. Even if the trap has its own filter, it is recommended to add an external filter. The filter adopts a pore size of 0.5-1mm. The pressure drop is too small and too thick to function.
3. The trap should be installed at the lowest point of the equipment outlet, and the condensed water should be discharged in time to avoid the steam resistance of the pipeline. However, the down tube is provided with a dirt collection section to prevent impurities from directly entering the trap.

4. The condensate flow direction should be consistent with the trap installation arrow mark. For the mechanical trap installation, install the manufacturer's mounting orientation.
5. Install the valve before and after the trap to facilitate the repair of the trap at any time.
6. If the trap is not installed at the lowest position of the equipment, add a backwater bend (condensation water lifting joint) at the lowest position of the water outlet to raise the condensed water level and then install the steam trap to avoid steam resistance.
7. The outlet pipe of the trap should not be immersed in water. (If immersed in water, drill a hole in the bend to break the vacuum and prevent the sand from sucking back.)
8. For traps that may generate a steam lock, install a balance tube on top of the trap.
9. Steam traps should not be installed in series. For steam traps with poor emptying capacity, a thermostatic venting valve can be connected in parallel.
10. Each device should be fitted with a trap. Cannot cluster hydrophobic.
11. Before the thermostatic trap, it is necessary to have a subcooling pipe that is not insulated for at least one meter according to the degree of subcooling. Other forms of traps should be as close as possible to the equipment.
12. When the drum type drying (with siphon type) equipment uses the steam trap, please specify: use the steam trap with anti-steam resistance device to avoid the steam lock of the equipment.
13. If there is condensate recovery after the trap, the trap outlet pipe should be connected to the manifold from the top of the recovery manifold to reduce back pressure and prevent backflow.
14. If there is condensed water recovery after the trap, the pipelines with different pressure levels should be recycled separately.
15. After the trap, the condensate recovery manifold cannot climb the slope, which will increase the back pressure of the trap.
16. Install a check valve before the condensate from the trap enters the recovery manifold to prevent condensate from flowing back. The check valve behind the thermodynamic steam trap should be kept at an interval of about 1 m to avoid damage.
17. Install a steam trap on the steam pipe. The main pipe should be provided with a condensate collecting well close to the radius of the main pipe, and then piped to the steam trap at a slightly higher side. The tubules must be kept warm and as short as possible.
18, mechanical traps are not used for a long time, you must remove the drain screw to drain the water inside to prevent freezing.

19. For the application of condensate back pressure recovery, in order to prevent corrosion and water accumulation, a bimetallic trap is added at the bottom of the drain pipe and directly emptied to facilitate the condensate draining during start-up and shutdown.

21. For welded steam traps, when the pipe is welded, the inner parts are removed and welded.

24, mechanical traps are very sensitive to the maximum differential pressure, the maximum working pressure difference must be checked against the design pressure difference on the valve nameplate during installation.

25, the installation of the trap with a diameter larger than DN40 must be supported. Do not force the trap.

26, the diameter of the pipe before and after the installation of the trap is likely to be different, the front end is condensed water, the rear end is mostly selected by the secondary steam, and the diameter of the condensate water pipe is changed by the heterocentric.

27. For traps with large caliber and heavy weight, it is necessary to pay attention to the manufacturer's recommended center of gravity and stress during installation and transportation.

28, the trap needs to be insulated, especially mechanical traps. It is recommended to use the matching insulation jacket to facilitate the inspection and maintenance of the valve.

29, the installation of the trap must consider the maintenance and inspection space, for important traps to install high-temperature tube mirror in front of the trap, the glass surface of the tube mirror should be easy to observe and distinguish the flow of steam.

30. If the pipe is connected to the main pipe after the steam trap, it must be mitered to avoid water hammer and main pipe erosion.
