Diagnosis and treatment of a chicken tsutsugamushi disease

Ascariasis is a common parasitic disease caused by Ascaridia galli in domestic chickens, spitting chickens and guinea fowls. It mainly harms chickens, affecting growth and development, and even killing them in large numbers. A report of a relatively serious chicken tsutsugamushi disease that occurred in the rural town of Cangxiang County in December 2005 is reported below and discussed with peers.

1 Incidence

On December 14, 2005, Loulou Town reported that a large number of 900 chickens that had been reared by the farmers had suffered a large number of deaths. As a result of the highly pathogenic bird flu prevention and control period, the staff of the epidemic prevention supervision station immediately rushed to the scene. The farmer was informed that the farmer purchased 900 detemperative chickens from Anlong in early October of this year. On November 25th, the chickens began to develop. Four to five deaths occurred, and the number of deaths per day increased. On one day, 300 animals died and the size of the chicken was uneven (0.5 to 1.5 kg). At the time of chicken onset, the farmer successively purchased special effects chicken disease solution (enrofloxacin solution), Qifu (anti-ball medicine), Di Kezhuli throat Changkang (Qingyubaidu powder) treatment in the market. effect. According to statistics, the number of cases was 782, the incidence rate was 87%; the number of deaths was 456, and the mortality rate was 51%.

2 clinical symptoms

The diseased chicken showed loose feathers, atrophy, pale cocks, red and black feces, and some sudden death.

3 pathological necropsy and diagnosis

3.1 The necropsy Anatomy of 10 chickens who are about to die and have died shows that the lesions mainly occur in the duodenum, there are lesions in the entire intestine, inflammation in the intestinal mucosa, and granular purulent lesions or nodules on the intestinal wall. . Parasite nematodes (1–2.5 cm in length) were found in the intestinal tracts of 8 chickens.

3.2 Diagnosis According to the chicken's incidence, clinical symptoms, pathological necropsy, and parasite tests, it was diagnosed as chicken tsutsugamushi disease.

4 Control measures

4.1 Precautionary Measures Ascaria eggs can survive for a long time in cool, wet areas but are sensitive to dryness and high temperatures (above 50°C) and direct sunlight. Therefore, the following precautions should be taken care of: (1) The pens should be kept dry. (2) The locust-infested chicken farm should maintain regular worming for 2 to 3 times a year. (3) Chickens and adult chickens are kept separately to prevent adult chickens from spreading eggs to chicks. (4) The excrement of the chicken house and sports ground should be frequently cleared and piled up and fermented. (5) Drinking water to add 0.25% flooding spirit can prevent infection.

4.2 Treatment Ivermectin was once dewormed at 0.05 ml/kg body weight. On the third day after treatment, the mental status of the chickens improved markedly, with only 3 to 6 deaths per day. No deaths occurred after the fifth day and the disease was cured.

5 Experience

The occurrence of chicken tsutsugamushi disease caused a large number of chickens to die at the beginning because they were not diagnosed in time. Although the final condition was controlled, the occurrence of parasitic diseases affected the growth rate of chickens, prolonged the breeding cycle, increased feed and other inputs, and severe economic losses. In the future, farmers should not arbitrarily use drugs when they are found to have the disease. It is best to find related professionals in time for diagnosis and treatment. In the meantime, it is necessary to strengthen feeding and management, maintain hygiene and cleanliness, supplement fine ingredients, and enhance chickens' own resistance so as to reduce the incidence and reduce the cost of breeding.
