1 Leakage of gasket seals There are three types of gasket leaks: interfacial leaks, seepage leaks, and destructive leaks. The former two are the main ones.
The causes of interface leakage are: combination and roughness and deformation; the gasket is not pressed; the bolts of the compression joint are deformed and elongated; the gasket is plastically deformed; the gasket material is aged, cracked, deteriorated, etc. Interface leakage often accounts for 80% to 90% of the total leakage.
The gasket made of cellulose, such as cotton, hemp, asbestos, leather, paper, etc., has loose structure, poor compactness, micro-slit between fibers, and is easily impregnated by the medium. Under pressure, the medium passes through the high-pressure side. The micro-gap penetrates to the low-pressure side, forming a permeation leak, which accounts for 10% to 20% of the total leak. In order to reduce the leakage leakage, the seal can be immersed, and the commonly used impregnating materials include grease, rubber and synthetic resin. Penetration can also occur in rubber, in which a gasket made of butyl rubber can be used under a vacuum of 1.33 × 10 -6 Pa. Neoprene or nitrile rubber can be used in a vacuum of 1.33 × 10 -1 Pa.
