1. Cause of stress

The main causes of stress: excessive feeding density, long-distance transport, sudden changes in feeding environment, and low or high temperatures. These excessively strong stimuli, especially when they continue to occur, often cause pigs to develop stress diseases such as sudden death syndrome, malignant hyperthermia syndrome, back muscle necrosis, tail bite, transport heat and so on.

2. Preventive measures

(1) Selection of anti-stress pig breeds When purchasing and introducing the young pigs, care should be taken to select varieties with strong anti-stress properties, such as Yorkshire and Duroc. Local pig breeds in China have good anti-stress ability. In the process of self-breeding and self-breeding, attention should be paid to observing and eliminating stress-sensitive swine individuals so that the frequency of stress genes in pigs can be reduced.

(2) Improve environmental conditions The building structure of the pig house must be scientific and reasonable to prevent various environmental pollutions; at the same time, sudden change of environmental factors should be avoided, such as preventing cold, high temperature, excessive noise, and strong light. In addition, the breeding density must be adjusted in a timely and reasonable manner to avoid congested pigs.

(3) Provide sufficient nutrition According to the different growth periods of the pigs, scientifically ration the diet to ensure that the nutrition of the feed is comprehensive and sufficient, with particular attention to the addition of minerals and vitamins in the feed. Also, be careful not to suddenly change feed ingredients to ensure that the pigs have enough clean drinking water.

(4) Improvement of transportation conditions During the process of transporting pigs, high temperature, crowdedness, fatigue, and rough handling must be avoided. Pigs sent for slaughter are strictly forbidden to eat;

(5) Use of drug prevention According to the test, pigs are often fed with Chinese herbal medicine Acanthopanax Senticosus, which can reduce the pig's stress response, maintain normal state, and the stress can be gradually relieved. Intramuscular injection of chlorpromazine (1 to 2 mg/kg body weight) before transporting pigs can prevent and slow transport stress.

(6) Scientifically slaughtered pigs According to the analysis, animals that have undergone stress reactions have slaughtered muscles that contain substances that are harmful to human health. Therefore, the slaughter process must be rapid so that the pigs do not produce a stress reaction that leads to a decline in meat quality.
