1. Dodder annual parasitic herb. Stem winding, yellow, slender, about 1mm in diameter, multi-branched, parasitic roots everywhere, extending into the body. Leaves sparse, scaly, triangular-ovate. Flowers bisexual, numerous and clustered into small umbels or umbels; bracts small, scaly; pedicels slightly thicker, ca. 1 mm; calyx western too, ca. 2 mm, below middle, plexiate, lobes 5, triangular, Apex obtuse; corolla white, pot-shaped, ca. 3 mm, 5-lobed, lobes triangular-ovate, apex acute or obtuse, reflexed outward, corolla basal with scales 5, oblong, apex and fringed Stamens 5, born in corolla lobes, short filaments, anthers exposed outside corolla lobes; pistil 2, carpels connate, ovary subglobose, 2-celled, styles 2, stigma capitate. Flowering from July to September, fruiting from August to October.
2. Morphology of the southern reeds and the dodder seedlings are similar.
