According to a report released by the Royal College of Physicians on the 6th, a new study conducted by the organization showed that the majority of asthma deaths stem from the patient's negligence or lack of self-care knowledge, and the doctors did not detect signs of deterioration. Researchers at the Royal College of Physicians have investigated 195 deaths caused by asthma in the UK in recent years. It was found that about 70% of deaths had at least one “potential and avoidable†major lethal factor, namely, lack of daily self-care, failure to detect signs of deterioration and improper handling of the condition.
The study found that the majority of deaths were significantly increased in the frequency of purchase of asthma inhalers within 12 months prior to onset. These patients did not have daily care and may have excessive use of nebulizers to aggravate the condition. The doctor or caregiver who prescribes the drug did not take appropriate interventions. Fifty-seven percent of patients did not receive special care 1 year before their death, and 45% did not receive any medical assistance at the time of the final onset.
The report pointed out that both doctors and patients generally do not pay attention to asthma, for example, because asthma symptoms will not always appear, some patients will not insist on taking drugs because of care. Health care workers, patients, and their families should pay attention to this and avoid avoiding death that could have been avoided due to negligence.
