Poland allows use of genetically modified soybeans as animal feed in 2016

Polish President Bronislaw Komorowski has recently signed an amendment to the animal husbandry law, which will allow the use of feed for animals from genetically modified soybean crops starting in 2016.

He pointed out that this decision "is economically and socially reasonable." He added that without this amendment, the country's poultry and pork producers may face various difficulties.

However, this decision was criticized by the Ministry of Agriculture.

In an interview, the Polish Minister of Agriculture Mark Kalembe stated that "Polish should not have any genetically modified products. There are many reasons, such as people's health, environmental protection and the need to maintain biodiversity."

He added that "products containing genetically modified organisms must have special markings so that the public has the right to choose."

However, the minister also pointed out that prohibiting the use of genetic modification in animal feed may lead to the collapse of production. He pointed out that the immediate use of such a ban may result in a decline in meat production, and some people may lose their jobs.
